Episode 21: The Connection Between Pain and Anxiety and How Best to Treat it w/ Dr Jonathan Kuttner

This is my interview with Dr Jonathan Kuttner from the Anxiety Support Summit.

Dr Kuttner specialises in the treatment of chronic joint and muscle pain.

As many know, anxiety can be an EXTREMELY painful journey. It seems pain and anxiety go hand in hand. And not just emotional pain. Physical pain. This often creates a vicious cycle that perpetuates both anxiety and pain.

Dr Kuttner himself experienced chronic pain for years after a near-fatal accident and is a testament to anybody struggling with chronic pain in their life that indeed there is life after pain.

A taste of what you’ll learn from this interview:

✓ The reptilian brain (and the two protective mechanisms coming from it – one for anxiety, one for pain.)

✓ How they end up going faulty and basically feeding our body with spam

✓ The importance of diaphragmatic breathing

✓ How to better understand and treat your pain

✓ Trigger points: what they are and how best to treat them

Episode 12: The Inflamed Mind w/ Edward Bullmore

ed.png

Worldwide, depression will be the single biggest cause of disability in the next twenty years. But treatment for it has not changed much in the last three decades. In the world of psychiatry —- time has pretty much stood still...

That is, until now, with Edward Bullmore's bestseller, The Inflamed Mind: A Radical New Approach to Depression.

In this game-changing book, University of Cambridge professor of psychiatry Edward Bullmore reveals the breakthrough new science on the link between depression and inflammation of the body and brain.

He explains how and why we now know that mental disorders can have their root cause in the immune system, and outlines a future revolution in which treatments could be specifically targeted to break the vicious cycles of stress, inflammation, and depression.

The Inflamed Mind goes far beyond the clinic and the lab, representing a whole new way of looking at how the mind, brain, and body all work together.

His book offers insights into how we could start getting to grips with depression and other mental disorders much more effectively in the future.

And I had the pleasure of chatting with him.

graham-davey.png

Are we living in an age of unprecedented anxiety, or has this always been a problem throughout history?

In his brilliant book, "The Anxiety Epidemic," Graham Davey addresses many important questions about the role of anxiety in the modern world...

What is it good for?

What are the unique modern-day causes of our anxieties and stresses?

What turns normal everyday anxiety into the disabling disorders many of us experience such as phobias, social anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, pathological worrying and post-traumatic stress disorder?

To truly conquer anxiety, we need to understand why it has established its prominent place in our modern world.

I had the privilege of speaking with Graham and discussing it all in this episode of The No BS Anxiety Talk Show.
